About Us
ChineseTime NYC is dedicated to providing children with a comprehensive linguistic and cultural learning environment. Originally established by several Chinese families affiliated with Columbia University to teach their children Chinese, the program has grown in popularity within the local community and was officially registered as a nonprofit organization in 2017.
While most of our students have Chinese heritage, we also welcome those without it. Children are grouped by age and language proficiency, with classes primarily using Chinese textbooks as the foundation for learning. We enhance the curriculum with various cultural activities, including Chinese calligraphy, cooking, singing, storytelling, and poem recitation.
Our teachers are not only passionate about education but also skilled at addressing the unique needs of students learning Chinese in a non-Chinese environment. Lessons are conducted predominantly in Chinese, and students are encouraged to communicate in the language as much as possible. Our goal is to help children progressively develop their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Chinese.
With our relatively small class sizes, teachers can tailor the curriculum to each child’s family background in the language and individual learning pace. This personalized approach maximizes the learning experience and fosters a genuine passion for the diverse aspects of the Chinese language and culture.
